We’re all leaning into AI these days — us included. It’s powerful, fast, and often genuinely helpful. Sage certainly thinks so, too, with their AI accounting software. They’re not just watching from the sidelines—they’re embedding AI directly into Sage Intacct through Sage Copilot, a smart assistant designed to help finance teams work faster and make better decisions.
AI can be incredibly helpful, until it starts suggesting capabilities that simply don’t exist. Lately, we’ve had a few BT Partners clients reach out to support with a new twist: they’d followed advice from ChatGPT, and things didn’t go quite as expected.
AI said click here. There was no here.
One of our clients asked ChatGPT a “how-to” question. The AI response came back with detailed instructions referencing checkboxes, subscriptions, and permissions that simply don’t exist in Sage Intacct. Had they consulted Sage Intacct’s contextual help, it would have provided the correct answer, highlighting the features and functionality available in Sage Intacct to solve the question.
Another client had some questions about module functionality and turned to ChatGPT for help. AI led them to a suggested “solution” that would have required a costly subscription change and still would not have provided the functionality they were looking for. The advice not only missed the mark, but it also led them in a completely unrelated direction. We were able to quickly provide them with the correct information about the module’s functionality, and they got the answer they needed.
These types of errors aren’t unusual. ChatGPT (and other generative AI tools) work by predicting what sounds plausible, not necessarily what’s true. They’re trained on broad public data — some current, some outdated, some simply wrong. These models don’t have access to Sage Intacct’s AI accounting software product roadmap, your system configuration, or the nuances of your subscription.
Sometimes the stakes are higher
Outside of Sage Intacct, in the very real world, AI-generated mistakes have led to more than just frustration. You may have read about bad medical advice, invented legal findings, racist responses, and false, harmful accusations.
When you apply this to your financial operations, you see the risk. One bad recommendation about how to do something could lead to errant configuration changes or costly subscription charges.
AI is evolving fast. So is Sage Intacct.
AI tools like ChatGPT are great for things like summarizing documents or drafting communications, but they weren’t built for managing your accounting system. Sage Copilot, on the other hand, was designed specifically for the finance team and is already embedded in Sage Intacct’s AI accounting software.
Here are a few ways Sage Copilot and the embedded AI accounting software capabilities in Sage Intacct are making a difference:
- Outlier detection in journal entries or expense reports
- Smart recommendations for transaction categorization
- Informed summaries of posted or draft transactions
- Natural-language Q&A, like “What’s our top expense category this month?”
- Workflow automation that saves time while preserving audit integrity
Sage delivers AI-informed insights where and when you need them — inside your actual workflows, with the right context already in place. It’s a smarter, safer way to bring AI into your finance operations.
Why our clients call us (and not a bot)
At BT Partners, we know a lot about Sage Intacct, and we also know about your instance. We know how you’ve set it up, what modules you’re using, what custom reports matter to your business, and how your team works. That matters when you’re troubleshooting something nuanced.
Here’s the part we really want to emphasize: you shouldn’t hesitate to call us. Our standard support isn’t some “one question per quarter” kind of deal. Most day-to-day support is included, with no nickel-and-diming or surprise charges. We encourage our clients to reach out anytime they hit a snag or need guidance. Whether it’s confirming if a feature should be visible, troubleshooting a reporting issue, or figuring out why a workflow isn’t behaving—our team is here to help.
We want your team to keep moving, stay confident, and get the right answer the first time.
Final thoughts
We like AI. We’re all for using the best tools available. And we love that Sage Intacct is embedding AI-driven features that are useful, contextual, and built for the finance team.
Just don’t ask a general-purpose chatbot to explain your chart of accounts structure, or how to fix a reporting issue across 11 entities and 7 dimensions. That’s what we’re here for.
If you’re staring at a screen and wondering whether a setting is missing—or if you’re missing something—pause the AI and contact us. Our team knows Sage Intacct AI accounting software inside and out. Your future self (and your financials) will thank you.
