Alta Pest Control, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, operates as a residential pest control services provider with 17 branch locations nationwide. As the company expanded, CFO Tim Bint saw the need for a more scalable and efficient financial management system.
"We got the service level we were asking for. It was a fair and reasonable price. The project was done on time. All the boxes are checked. When you're looking for someone to help you get a system implemented, those are all the things you want - for it to be as painless as possible, and they got us there."
Alta Pest had been managing financials using separate QuickBooks instances for each branch. “About 17 or so were on QuickBooks, and each branch had its own separate instance. Consolidating those into one entity-level set of consolidated financials was a nightmare,” says Tim Bint, the CFO at Alta Pest Control. The decentralized structure resulted in slow, errorprone, and overly manual data consolidation.
Following a 2023 merger with a similar-sized company using a different QuickBooks chart of accounts, getting clean, consistent numbers became even harder. “From time to time we would find that accounts weren’t mapping, and so the consolidated financials didn’t tie to the individual totals of each one. That was problematic,” Bint shares. Audits and month-end close processes required logging into each branch’s system individually, increasing complexity and inefficiency even more. Their current system also couldn’t keep up with Alta Pest’s growth. “You get to a point where you outgrow QuickBooks. The functionality is lacking,” Bint explains.
Having previously worked with Sage Intacct, a Sage accounting system, Bint knew it was the right fit. “It’s a very economical ERP. We didn’t need something like Oracle or SAP. We needed something more appropriate for the mid-market, like Sage Intacct,” he says.
To lead the Sage accounting system implementation, Bint partnered with BT Partners. “I had such a good relationship with BT Partners; we built a KPI database with Domo at Stan’s and really felt they were the right team to use. I had not used them before for Sage, but with their track record and the level of expertise, I thought they’d be a good fit.”
The Sage accounting system implementation began in mid-2024, led by BT Partners. The scope included migrating all branch data into Sage Intacct and integrating third-party systems such as CRM and Bill.com. “The goal was to be completely migrated from QuickBooks by September 1st, and we were able to do that. It was right on time,” says Bint. “It turned out to be a really good project. Very cost-effective, and we’re very pleased with it.”
BT Partners helped Alta Pest fully leverage Sage Intacct’s capabilities. The platform enabled real-time consolidated financial reporting without manual intervention and streamlined audit preparation through a shared chart of accounts and detailed drill-downs. “They were very knowledgeable, obviously in how Sage functions, and so we really didn’t encounter any major problems with the build-out. It went very seamlessly,” Bint shares.
After the Sage accounting system implementation, Alta Pest stabilized its financial operations and significantly shortened its close cycle. “On QuickBooks, it usually took us anywhere from 20 to 25 days to close the books. Moving over to Sage Intacct, we’ve been able to close the books in about 15 days or less. In some cases, we’ve done it in 12. So, we cut out, probably on average, 10 days off of our timeline,” says Bint. This freed up staff to focus on strategic analysis rather than manual tasks.
With support from BT Partners, Alta Pest built custom reports that eliminated the need for manual data manipulation. “Because we build a lot of custom reports. We’re no longer pulling [data] from QuickBooks and then manually working it into a report that our stakeholders need to see. Now, we just build out automatically and Sage generates the reports we send out,” says Bint.
Having the ability to slice financial data at the entity level and generate tailored reports improved the accuracy and speed of reviews, allowing for quicker discrepancy detection and better decision-making. The team also began integrating Power BI dashboards to align financial and operational KPIs. “What we want to do is extract a lot of information out of the Sage Intacct financials and move that information into this KPI database,” Bint explains.
Having more time to do deeper insight led to substantial cost savings. “We found, by having the time to look at it, that we were paying significantly more per vehicle for the insurance. We were able to save a half million dollars off of our insurance premiums per year,” Bint says.
Streamlined operations also allowed Alta Pest to reduce staffing costs. The company replaced a $50,000/month fractional CFO with a leaner internal team, supported by Sage Intacct and BT Partners. Bint appreciated BT Partners’ responsive and collaborative support. “[Other partners] churn through a lot of implementations. They get in and get out quickly and they leave you stranded… BT Partners is a much smaller firm, and they have a smaller client base, so they are more hands-on.”
Overall, the move to Sage Intacct transformed Alta Pest’s finance operations. The team now focuses more on strategic analysis and business improvement. “They checked all the boxes that we were looking for,” says Bint. “Pretty much anytime we have a question we just reach out to them, and we schedule time, and they’re available.”
Alta Pest’s partnership with BT Partners has laid the foundation for continued growth, strengthened financial oversight, and improved business agility.
